MAPALO SCHOOL FOR ORPHANS - HOPE FOR LIFE
Four years ago as a church, we decided to get involved on the solution side of the AIDS pandemic taking place in Africa. Through a series of relationships, we connected with a group of 300 children in Ndola Zambia who are part of the Mapalo School for Orphans. These children have lost one or both parents to the AIDS pandemic and are in dire need of an education and a daily nutritious meal.

Through the generosity and effort of many people we have made incredible progress these past four years.

- We went from a cup of porridge per day per child to a 3 course daily nutritious lunch served on a plate for each child.

-We moved from 4 make-shift classrooms to a new building with separate classrooms for each grade, furnished with desks and bathrooms.

- We purchased additional property to increase the size of the school and to provide a self-sustaining brick making business.

- We built a new building to house a large kitchen and dining room for the children.

- We developed a child sponsorship program where individuals like you can sponsor a child and support the Mapalo School for Orphans.  For more information on sponsoring a child, CLICK HERE.

There is much more to do, and we are excited as a church to share God's love and grace in the years to come. Join us on Sunday as we continue to share with you our next big project. We also invite you to join on our next trip to Zambian, April 13-22, 2010.

FAZE3

FAZE3 for middle school students meets each Sunday morning during the 10:30 a.m. service in the Teen Room at the Hope Center.  Under the direction of Jason and Stephanie Lerew, our teens play games, hear from the band and learn more about Jesus.   They are now starting a journey through Jesus' Life looking at the major events and miracles he performed.  Thanks Jason and Stephanie for everything that you are doing for and with kids!

HAITI RELIEF--UPDATE

This past Sunday, gave people the opportunity to give through HCC to the relief efforts in Haiti.  The response was overwhelming.  Thanks to your generosity, we have cut a check to the Foursquare Disaster Relief fund for $4300.  100% of every contribution goes to the relief effort in working with teams and others for both the immediate needs and the needs over the long haul.  Work continues as the Foursquare churches in the area continue to serve those around them.  If you are interested in following the Foursquare Disaster efforts in Haiti, CLICK HERE.

CHASE THE PIG-DRIVERS

HCC high school students have been participating with the Northwest Leadership Foundation, Mentoring123 program by coming along side middle school students at First Creek in Tacoma.  As a result of their efforts, nearly an entire 7th grade class at First Creek is being mentored...it has made a REAL and TANGIBLE difference in their attitude and academics. This last week we made and appeal for drivers and added two to our list.  But we can use more help.  Students meet at the Gig Harbor Library at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and return by 4:30 p.m.  If you are interested in driving, let us know @ 253.853.4787.

CARENET BABY BOTTLE UPDATE

Last week here at HCC, we distributed empty baby bottles as part of an effort to collect spare change for our local Gig Harbor area CareNet Center. CareNet Centers offer free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, peer counseling services, and other practical, emotional, and spiritual help to empower women and men facing pregnancy related concerns. More baby bottles will be available this coming Sunday morning and you will also have the opportunity to return any full bottles as well.  Join us with your spare change this year as we support girls, women and families in need.
